Saturday with a Scientist: Small & Icy Objects in Space

11:00 am - 1:00 pm

How much do you know about Jupiter’s moon, Europa? Have you ever wanted to build your own comet?

Join Dr. Tracy Becker at the Witte Museum for an exploration of small bodies in the solar system and learn more about NASA’s upcoming mission!

Dr. Becker is part of the Department of Space Research at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). SwRI built two of the nine instruments on board NASA’s upcoming Flagship mission to Jupiter’s icy moon, called Europa. Dr. Becker will answer your questions about Europa and share what it’s like to work on the Ultraviolet Spectrograph, a device that will help determine the composition of Europa’s atmosphere.

Plus, dive into the small and icy objects in space as you create your own comet! Dr. Becker will guide this hands-on activity and show you and your family how comet tails form.

Bring your friends and family to the Witte Museum for Saturday with a Scientist: Small & Icy Objects in Space.
