This summer, submerge yourself in the world of Sharks! In this immersive blockbuster exhibition created by Australian Museum experts, visitors will go back in time to meet sharks’ ancient ancestors and uncover their extraordinary adaptations with interactive displays, touchable specimens and real objects. Do you dare to dive in? Come on in, the water’s fine.

Dive into this deep-sea adventure in the Mays Family Center at the Witte Museum in San Antonio:

COME FACE-TO-FACE WITH LIFE-SIZED MODELS

Visitors will encounter ten life-sized, scientifically accurate models, including the now extinct 270-million-year-old Helicoprion (also known as the Buzzsaw Shark); the Bull Shark, which lives in fresh water for extended periods of time; and the Great White Shark, one of the most famous (and feared) species of shark. Other sharks on display include the Tiger Shark, Greynurse Shark and Hammerhead Shark.

INTERACTIVE & IMMERSIVE

Sharks explorers will get hands-on through unique artifacts and tactile displays, which include touchables such as a megalodon jaw, shark skin recreations and a Great White tooth. Guests of all ages can explore the inside of a shark’s body using interactive displays, evolve and adapt a virtual shark to different environments and experience a 360-degree view of the world from the perspective of a Hammerhead Shark. State-of-the-art projections and a specially designed ‘oceanarium’ showcasing the majesty and power of sharks swimming through the ocean create a dramatic and captivating experience.

BEYOND THE BITE

Did you know sharks existed before the dinosaurs? They have survived five mass extinctions in Earth’s history! But now sharks face serious threats. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reports that a quarter of shark species are endangered. Inside Sharks, you’ll learn the very latest conservation information, sharks’ role in ocean ecosystems and ongoing protection efforts. Plus, gain valuable insights on shark safety, so you can enjoy the ocean even in shark-inhabited waters.

Spanning 10,000 square feet, Sharks invites families, students and sea life enthusiasts into a world dominated by members of the shark family to explore their genetic diversity, territories, interactions and significance to ocean ecosystems. It’s as close as you can get to these incredible creatures—without getting eaten.
