SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 19, 2023) – Quest across land, sea and space while discovering the importance of maps and navigation in everyday life. Explore Your World, presented by Traylor Ranches, makes its Texas debut October 28 through February 11, 2024 in the Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery at the Witte Museum. Navigate through a shipwreck, escape a building, use a real sonar scanner and do more while completing the exhibition’s 19 interactive stations.

“Teachers and parents are looking for ways to encourage children’s love of geography and global environments,” shared Marise McDermott, President & CEO of the Witte Museum. “Explore Your World is the ideal exhibition to spark this enthusiasm and help children develop important navigation and mapping skills to complement their natural curiosity about the world around them.”

Created by Scitech in Perth, Australia and produced by Imagine Exhibitions, this exploration of mapping and navigation includes special ‘quest’ stations where visitors solve puzzles to collect different layers of their very own map, which can be viewed and brought to life through augmented reality.

Explore Your World uses cutting-edge technologies and experiences that effectively share STEM skills and knowledge. Visitors will use different methods of navigation to escape a virtual building and pilot a simulated underwater exploration vehicle. They can take on the challenge of a giant game of Battleship using coordinates or operate a sonar scanner to map themselves and their friends.

In a special section of the exhibition, exclusive to the Witte Museum, visitors can explore historic Texas maps and surveying equipment from the Witte Museum Collection. A hands-on interactive welcomes visitors to build out San Antonio de Bejár in the early 1700s, following the Spanish model to place Mission San Antonio de Valero, Main Plaza, San Fernando Church and other key landmarks.

Dr. John Chappell, Chief Executive Officer, Scitech said “We are extremely proud that our exhibitions have the opportunity to tour North America, continuing to engage visitors on the other side of the planet to Australia. Our immersive, hands-on approach has proven highly successful in exposing minds young and old to critical STEM skills and ways of thinking that can set them on a positive trajectory for life”.

Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions shared, “Imagine Exhibitions is proud to partner with Scitech to bring Explore Your World to the Witte Museum. Explore Your World inspires deeper learning by not only offering visitors the opportunity to discover the many ways we navigate the world around us, but also by teaching tough STEM topics in an engaging way using maps as the tool.”
