Explore Your World Special Exhibition

How quickly can you memorize an escape route? Can your family communicate effectively while navigating a shipwreck? What do the colors mean in topographical maps?

Complete a quest across land and sea as you Explore Your World in this special exhibition. Keep your family entertained with 19 interactive stations. Help your children solve puzzles and hone your navigation skills as you work together to bring your 2-D map to life.

Pictures with Santa Claus and the Dinosaurs

Saturday, December 16 • 10 a.m. – Noon

Final chance to combine the magic of Santa with the wonder of the Witte for holiday photos your family will cherish for a lifetime. Santa Claus will visit and take photos with museum guests in the Naylor Family Dinosaur Gallery.

Tickets: Free with Museum Admission. Please bring your own camera to take photos.

STEAM Sunday: Charting Space

Sunday, December 17 • 2-3 p.m.

How do objects in space move? Inspired by the special exhibition and the winter solstice, this hands-on workshop explores the orderly motion of objects in our solar system. You and your family will discover how to identify different objects in the night sky and make models and charts of space.

Tickets: $8 per participant + Museum Admission

White Shaman Preserve Tours 

Most Saturdays • 12:30-2 p.m.

Journey deep into the rugged Lower Pecos Canyonlands to experience the White Shaman mural, considered one of the most cosmologically complex narratives in the world, at the Witte Museum’s White Shaman Preserve.

Tickets: $15 (member) / $25 (non-member)

A State of Exploration

Explore the eight eco-regions of Texas through a treasure trove of objects from the Witte Collections—including seashells and fossils, insects and birds, handwritten journals and expressive illustrations—and gain inspiration for ways you can observe and record the world around you.

More than 1,300 men died fighting for Mexican Independence in the 1813 Battle of Medina. But where did the battle take place? Experts have searched for decades, and now new evidence has been uncovered and is on display at the Witte.

New Discoveries: Welcome to Earth

In February, a 1,000-pound meteor rocketed toward Earth before shattering into hundreds of pieces that were scattered across the South Texas landscape. You can view the found meteorites in this new exhibition.

Our team of educators will lead campers through fun adventures focused on science, technology, engineering, paleontology, cooking and more.
