SAN ANTONIO, Texas (December 29, 2023) – The Witte Museum announces the extension of Mi Cultura—Bringing Shadows Into the Light: The Photography of Al Rendón, a retrospective exhibition of photographer Al Rendón’s 50-year career. The exhibition is currently open in the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center at the Witte Museum and will now run through May 27, 2024.

Mi Cultura—Bringing Shadows Into the Light invites visitors to experience the unique culture and spirit of San Antonio through the photography of Rendón, who has documented Tejano life in South Texas for decades. The exhibition features more than sixty of Rendón’s photographs and provides a comprehensive offering of his career, beginning with the touring Rock & Roll concerts he captured in the 1970s and evolving to the Conjunto and Tejano artists of the local culture, including his iconic photos of Selena.

The exhibition also includes a re-creation of a darkroom with Rendón’s slides and darkroom equipment, inviting visitors to explore the process used to develop photographs. Rendón’s personal collection of cameras and press passes used throughout his career are also on display.

Mi Cultura—Bringing Shadows Into the Light: The Photography of Al Rendón is included with museum admission. Additional information and tickets can be found at WitteMuseum.org.
